APPX Conference 2011

It was a Birthday Party and a Conference!

APPX Software celebrated a birthday, October 26-28 in Orlando, Florida!

It's been 20 years since the APPX product was first released, and that was cause for a celebration. Over 50 customers and resellers attended the Conference, discovered what's new, and had a good time enjoying all the magical attractions of the area. The APPX Birthday Party (and conference) was enjoyed by all. As with all APPX conferences, the agenda provided plenty of informative sessions, time to exchange ideas with colleagues, and social events to make the trip more fun. After all, it's our customers and resellers who have made this birthday possible, so we wanted you all to have a great time.

Conference Agenda

The agenda included a variety of topics of interest to APPX designers at all levels, and to APPX administrators and users as well. Some of the areas that the presentations covered:

  • What you need to know about APPX 5.0
  • What you want to know about APPX 5.1
  • The APPX roadmap beyond 5.1
  • APPX web integration
  • Mobile applications with APPX
  • Report distribution system
  • ... and more!

Pre-Conference Training Class

As is our tradition, we offered a special training class prior to the Conference. This class, entitled "APPX Magic - Keys to the Kingdom", was held from Monday through Wednesday, October 24-26. It was the best attended class in the history of APPX!

Location

The Conference Hotel was the Marriott Courtyard Orlando - Lake Buena Vista at the Marriott Village.

Fun and Festivities

We kicked off the celebration with a Welcome Reception on Wednesday evening at the hotel, and it was attended by just about everyone at the class and conference. The food was good and the company was engaging. It went until after 10:00 pm and a number of the group continued partying until near midnight. Thursday day was spent reviewing the current and future features of APPX R5 and R5.1. Thursday night was spent at a unique Florida Cracker venue, the Black Hammock fish camp. Every one attending had a ride on an air boat (to see wildlife and alligators), and had a picture taken with a resident gator. Brenda of APPX had a close encounter with the large resident gator that was worth every moment that it lasted. That gator can really hiss! Once the barbecue buffet was concluded, a birthday cake was served in celebration of APPXs' 20th year. The evening was concluded with a drawing for a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, based on a guess submitted at the opening reception as to how many M&Ms were in a jar. The winner of the tablet was Dave Bisdorf of National Beverage Corporation. He went back to Detroit with a great new toy. Friday was a day for sharing some of the applications developed with APPX and some imaginative ways to integrate APPX with web applications. The applications shown are described and are available for viewing or download on the conference applications page. We wrapped up with a lively discussion on development priorities and ways that APPX can communicate more effectively with it's customers and resellers. We thank all of you who participated for your suggestions and feedback.

Thanks for attending!

It was five years since the last APPX Conference, since the last time we all had a chance to get together and share ideas, accomplishments, and friendship. The 20th birthday of our namesake product provided the perfect opportunity to gather, celebrate our past, and look forward to our future. We hope all who attended had a good time!
